Chris Kluwe can put off those plans to hang up his helmet and become a full-time musician/writer/social activist. He still has some professional punting left to do. And for the next year at least, he will be doing that punting in Oakland. According to Brendan Ayanbadejo.

Yes, Brendan Ayanbadejo is breaking news now. Move over Adam Schefter.

Kluwe as you recall was cut by the Vikings last week after 8+ years in Minnesota. The release led to a lot of hurt feelings…and a lot of speculation about the real motivations behind the move. Was Kluwe cut for political reasons? Or was it just about football and finance? We will never know.

Kluwe himself has taken the high road ever since being let go. He is smart enough to know the score. No bad-mouthing the Vikings until after he is ready to leave football. Showing public bitterness or accusing the Vikings of anything untoward would’ve only hurt his chances to catch on someplace else.

He kept his mouth shut and it worked. He has scored another gig. He won’t be kicking indoors anymore though. That could make a difference.

In terms of organizational fit? The Raiders are perfect for Kluwe. Over its history that franchise has been home to more misfits, wackos and colorful characters than almost any other. Safe to say Kluwe fits right in.
