The preseason is almost upon us. In fact it begins tonight in Mall of America field as the Vikings take on the Houston Texans. As we know, plenty of veterans and at least one prominent rookie – Xavier Rhodes – will be sitting out tonight’s game. But lots of interesting players will be on the field as well. Here are the five guys I’m most looking forward to seeing.

5. Sharrif Floyd

All reports suggest that this guy is the real deal. An explosive talent who can be a difference maker right away. Can’t wait to see this guy begin what I expect will be a dominating career as the new Kevin Williams.

4. Bradley Randle

Been hearing so much about this guy in camp. Little guy out of UNLV who combines power and quickness. Could be the answer as scat-back/third down back. No offense to Toby Gerhart but the Vikings could use a little more playmaking out of their back up running back.

3. Christian Ponder

We won’t see too much of Ponder, him being the starting QB and all. But we’ll still be able to get a little taste of him out there working with his new receivers including Greg Jennings. It will be intriguing to see if there’s any chemistry developing between him and his new weapons. Granted, it’s preseason, but still.

2. Michael Mauti

This guy has made great strides in a short period of time. At the draft he was seen as a big question mark with his injury history. But his rehab went well and he surprised everyone by being ready for the start of camp. The reports out of camp have him getting second team reps at the Mike behind Erin Henderson. Everyone believes this guy has a great head for the game. But can he physically get it done in the NFL? I want to see him out there, see how he moves. This guy could be the future starter at Mike for the Vikings.

1. Cordarrelle Patterson

This is the guy everyone wants to see. His talent is reportedly off the charts. And he’s been doing great things in camp. Is this guy the next great Vikings receiver? The guy who will make us forget Percy Harvin? Time will tell.
