The Browns are already without their starting quarterback, Brandon Weeden, for the Vikings home opener in week 3. But now they will also be without running back Trent Richardson for that game. Not because of injury or suspension, but because he’s been TRADED. That’s right, Trent Richardson as traded earlier today to the Indianapolis Colts for a first round pick.
Richardson was the #3 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. In fact, the Browns traded up in that draft from #4 overall to ensure the rights to him. This trade comes as a major surprise to many sports fans and analysts since the Browns are highly unlikely get better than a #3 pick from Indianapolis in the process.
This leaves the Browns with Bobby Rainey and Chris Ogbonnaya as the only running backs on their roster. Cleveland is planning on bringing in free agent Willis McGahee for a workout and will most likely sign him to be their primary rusher.
One thing is for certain, this Cleveland Browns team isn’t afraid to make bold moves. Sadly, not a lot of those bold moves seem to make a lot of sense.
The Vikings play the Browns on Sunday, September 22nd in Minnesota.
