The news on Adrian Peterson’s son has reached the most horrible level imaginable. A police source confirms that the 2-year-old passed away on Friday after sustaining catastrophic head injuries during an attack by his mother’s boyfriend. The boyfriend and alleged assailant, Joseph Patterson, was arrested Thursday after police found the child unresponsive inside the mother’s apartment. Reports said the child showed no brain activity and a source said the mother planned to take him off life support and donate his organs.
Adrian Peterson rushed to the mother’s home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Thursday after learning the tragic news. He returned Friday to Minnesota and issued a statement asking the press to respect his privacy and announcing that he would indeed play Sunday against the Carolina Panthers at Mall of America Field.
The alleged attacker, Joseph Patterson, has a history of domestic violence. He was charged with assault in 2012 after attacking the mother of his own child who had previously accused him of choking her and threatening her with a knife. In 2004 a woman applied for a protection order against Patterson in Jackson County. He is now being held on $750,000 bond.
