Audie Cole Returns; Kevin Murphy Waived

The Vikings on Saturday welcomed back a familiar face, re-signing Audie Cole to the roster a few days after placing him on waivers. Cole’s departure was such a brief one that some of his teammates probably didn’t even realize he was gone.

The decision to waive Cole had nothing to do with performance of course, it was just a matter of numbers. With the injuries on the offensive line, the Vikings had no choice but to add depth there going into Thursday’s game with Washington. So Cole was cut to make room for practice squad tackle Kevin Murphy.

Audie made it through waivers unclaimed and became a free agent. As expected, the Vikes quickly brought Cole back, and have now waived Murphy who will soon be re-signed to the practice squad.

With any luck Phil Loadholt will recover from his concussion before next weekend’s game against Seattle, and there won’t be any need to bring on extra offensive linemen.
