Jerome Simpson’s ultimate fate is still up in the air after his weekend DWI arrest, but for the time being Jerome is out of the pokey and resuming his life as a professional football player. Andrew Krammer reports that the receiver was present at Winter Park for Monday morning’s walkthrough, two days after being bailed out of a Hennepin County jail.
Simpson was arrested early Saturday morning for probable cause DWI after police received reports of a stalled car blocking traffic on the interstate and discovered a clearly inebriated Simpson on the scene. Simpson refused a breath test and was thrown in the slammer, finally being released later on Saturday on $12,000 bond.
It is not yet known how this latest arrest will affect Simpson’s probation stemming from a 2012 drug charge in Kentucky. It’s also not known what discipline Simpson, who served a 3-game suspension at the start of the 2012 season after the aforementioned drug charge, will face from the league for this new infraction.
The Vikings have thus far released no statement about Simpson outside of the boiler plate “we’re still gathering facts and will make a further statement at the appropriate time” jazz.
Simpson leads the Vikings with 33 receptions and 491 receiving yards. He has yet to catch a TD in 2013.
