Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder injured his left shoulder against the Washington Redskins while diving for the endzone in the third quarter on Thursday Night Football. He was forced to leave the game because of the injury. Ponder’s backup, Matt Cassel, took the field in his place. Ponder’s status as the team’s starter for the team’s week 11 contest against the Seattle Seahawks (you can find Vikings vs. Seahawks tickets here if you’re looking to trek out west.)
Despite those injuries, Ponder was a full participant in practice on Wednesday. The injury didn’t seem to bother him as he appeared to be throwing without restrictions. As of this writing, Ponder appears to be on track to be the Minnesota Vikings starting quarterback next week.
Although the team has said they will take a week-by-week approach to the quarterback position, it appears as though Christian Ponder has the advantage over both Matt Cassel and Josh Freeman. Ponder may very well get his opportunity to play out the rest of the year, just so the team can get one last chance to see if he can be the quarterback that this team needs.
