Christian Ponder Leaves Vikings-Bears Game With Possible Concussion

Christian Ponder did not have a very pleasant first half against the Bears. He was hit multiple times by a blitzing Bears defense, and even when he had time to throw, he wasn’t exactly what you would call effective. Late in the second quarter Ponder finally took one hit too many and was forced to leave the game.

Ponder went to the sidelines to be checked out by the Vikings’ team doctor, and the decision was made to take Ponder’s helmet away and send him to the locker room. Ponder is officially listed as questionable after being examined for a concussion. At halftime, Ponder’s status was officially changed to out.

Matt Cassel will play the second half for the Vikings with Josh Freeman inactive once again. Cassel has two starts on the year and saw some action in the second half against Washington and Seattle.

Ponder’s stats from the first half: 3-of-8 passing for 40 yards and no touchdowns. He was sacked 3 times.

A bad season for Ponder becomes even worse. And the Vikings continue to experience a rash of concussions. John Sullivan, Xavier Rhodes and Joe Webb have all been concussed in recent weeks.
