The starting quarterback for the Vikings game against the Philadelphia Eagles has been announced.  Surprisingly, the Vikings are rolling with Matt Cassel as their signal caller.

The reason this is surprising is because Cassel has always acted as the backup to Christian Ponder when Ponder was healthy.  Now, even though Ponder has been cleared to play after passing concussion protocol, Cassel is getting the nod over him.

In the opinion of most experts, this is a good move.  Cassel gives the team the best chance to win and provides a veteran’s experience behind center.  Despite this, head coach Leslie Frazier has said that both Cassel and Ponder have given the coaching staff a situation where they ”want to see both of them a little more”.

How much more evaluation of Ponder does that coaching staff need?  And what role exactly is Josh Freeman being paid to execute in Minnesota?  This leaves a lot questions to answer, but at least we know who will be starting on Sunday.
