Vikings Starting Running Back Still Unknown

Dec 8, 2013; Baltimore, MD, USA; Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson (28) leaves the field with an apparent injury in the second quarter against the Baltimore Ravens at M

With the injury to Adrian Peterson, rumors are circulating that he may miss Sunday’s game against the Eagles.  His scans and x-rays have come back good, but he is still in a walking boot for now.  If he is unable to play, the next man up would get an opportunity to shine.  Sadly, the next man up is also injured.

Dec 8, 2013; Baltimore, MD, USA; Minnesota Vikings running back Toby Gerhart (32) fends off Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith (22) during his fourth quarter touchdown run at M

Toby Gerhart is dealing with a hamstring issue that the coaching staff won’t give the severity of.  Gerhart finished the game against the Ravens strong, finishing with 15 carries for 89 yards including a long, bruising touchdown run.  However, that hamstring may sideline him on Sunday too.

That means that Matt Asiata might be the Vikings starting running back against Philadelphia.  Asiata hasn’t had a carry in a regular season game since December 23rd of 2012.  And he only has 3 career regular season carries with the Vikings that total 9 yards.  This would be a big opportunity for Asiata to show his value with the team.

Who do you think will get the start on Sunday?  Will it be Adrian Peterson, Toby Gerhart or Matt Asiata?  Let us know in the comments what you think!

The right call would be to let matt start since their is no point in putting your best player’s long-term health on the line when nothing is at stake, but the Vikings personal makes plenty of boneheaded decions so I wouldn’t be surprised to see AP go out there.
