It’s Thursday and several injured Vikings players have yet to return to practice. Among them is superstar running back Adrian Peterson.
Peterson is dealing with a foot problem that is likely to keep him out of the game on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. At this point of the season, it doesn’t make much sense to risk the health and future of the team’s premier player and face of the franchise in a game after the team has been eliminated from playoff contention. The Vikings know this all too well after Peterson was injured in a “meaningless” game against the Washington Redskins two seasons ago that threatened his career.
Other Vikings players not yet practicing are running back Toby Gerhart and tight end John Carlson. Carlson is unlikely to play on Sunday because of a concussion that he has not yet cleared the protocol for. Meanwhile, Gerhart is dealing with a hamstring issue and is the most likely of the three to be available against the Eagles.
