Minnesota running back Toby Gerhart is injured. The Vikings had brought in Gerhart with a second round draft pick back in 2010 to be the solid backup for superstar Adrian Peterson. Sadly, Toby’s time with the team may be over.
Here are Gerhart’s stats through 4 years with Minnesota:
- 61 games played
- 276 rushes for 1,305 yards
- 77 catches for 600 yards
- 8 total touchdowns
Gerhart’s injured hamstring has his status for Sunday’s season finale against the Detroit Lions in question. The former Stanford standout will be a free agent after this year and he is unlikely to return to a team that wishes to use him primarily as a backup or pass blocker. He will be looking for a job as a featured or rotational running back and a bigger payday in free agency.
Or maybe he will be loyal to the franchise that drafted him, embrace his role with the team and return at a discount.
We’ll all find out this offseason.
