It appears as though the Vikings will have to utilize their third string running back again on Sunday against the Detroit Lions.

With Adrian Peterson’s status as “doubtful” for the Vikings season finale and backup Toby Gerhart already ruled out, Minnesota will have to rely on the power run game of Matt Asiata to help them defeat the Lions.  Asiata has already started one other game this year and had some excellent results.  Although his yards per carry average wasn’t very impressive (1.7), but he managed to find the end zone three times against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Recently promoted Joe Banyard will act as a rotational back and backup to Asiata.

Glad Asiata is playing and Banyard is his backup. Hate to say so, and I do love Ad, but Asiata seems to be more productive where it counts right now.
