Vikings Avoid Franchise Record For Opponents Points Scored

Many fans thought of it as a foregone conclusion, but the Vikings avoided a historic franchise low on Sunday.  By holding the Detroit Lions to 13 points in the season finale, this year’s Vikings squad will not break the team record for most points scored by opponents in a season.

Minnesota narrowly avoided the record.  They were only 5 points from breaking it.

That’s not to say that this defense should be very proud of their results this year.  Minnesota is still at or near the bottom in most defensive statistical categories.  Even though the Vikings brought in a defensive coordinator who is an expert with the team’s scheme and their head coach is their former defensive coordinator, Minnesota struggled to contain the offense of nearly every team they played this year.

In fact, Minnesota hadn’t held an opponent under 20 points until this week.

Every member of the Vikings defense may want to send a letter of thanks to Calvin Johnson.  If Megatron were able to play in this game, this record is likely to have fallen.
