Head Coach Search: Vikings Will Interview Cardinals Defensive Coordinator Todd Bowles

Another name has surfaced in the Great and Tedious Vikings Head Coach Search. Todd Bowles, defensive coordinator of the surprisingly good Arizona Cardinals, will reportedly interview next week for Leslie Frazier’s old job.

Bowles, like Leslie Frazier before him, comes with a background as a defensive backs coach. His first full-on DC job was with the Eagles in 2012. He moved to the Cardinals in 2013 and ran what would turn out to be the 6th best defense in the league statistically.

Bowles is the fourth current defensive coordinator to be mentioned in connection with the Vikings’ head coach job. Seattle’s Dan Quinn, Cincinnati’s Mike Zimmer and Denver’s Jack Del Rio are the others.

Offensive coordinators reportedly being considered include Denver’s Adam Gase and Seattle’s Darrell Bevell. Former head coaches on the Pure Speculation At This Point List include Lovie Smith and Ken Whisenhunt.

Sorry fans but so far Bud Grant is not in the running that I know of.

This could be incidental but bringing Bowles in to interview would also fulfill the Vikings’ Rooney Rule requirement. He’s black, everyone!
