Those of you worried about how Leslie Frazier is going to make out now that he’s been fired by the Vikings? Fret no more. Leslie is going to land on his feet. With Lovie Smith in Tampa Bay, reportedly.

Jay Glazer revealed earlier this evening that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are working fast to finalize a contract with Lovie Smith, their #1 choice for head coach now that Greg Schiano has been sent packing. It’s believed the Bucs were concerned about Lovie possibly being offered a job in Detroit, hence their eagerness to get a deal done with the former Bears head coach.

Jason La Canfora has now reported that Leslie Frazier is expected to follow Smith to Tampa Bay and become his defensive coordinator. It had been rumored for the past week that Frazier would be reunited with Smith when and if Lovie landed a new gig.

So Tampa-2 devotee Frazier ends up in the place where it all began. He’ll have plenty of defensive talent to work with down there. Lovie shouldn’t be too worried about that side of the ball. It’s the offense he has to worry about.

Now we wait to see if Frazier plucks any current Vikings assistants away from Minnesota to fill out his staff. All assistants are still under contract to the Vikes but I can’t imagine Rick Spielman standing in the way if guys like Mike Singletary and Fred Pagac want to go south with Leslie.

Those guys likely won’t be retained by the new coach anyway, so there’s no reason to prevent them teaming up with Frazier, Smith and the new regime down in Tampa.
