The Vikings may have had a rough season, but things are certainly looking up for rookie wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson.

Patterson has emerged as a candidate for Rookie of the Year despite getting a slow start to the year.  That start was due to coaches taking the time to get him acclimated to the offense.  Now that Patterson has had a chance to get to know some things, he has performed well enough to earn the title of  “Offensive Rookie of the Month” for December.

December was a great month for Patterson.  He had 375 total yards and six total touchdowns in December.  Here is a quick breakdown of those numbers:

  • 16 receptions
  • 219 receiving yards
  • 3 receiving touchdowns
  • 10 carries
  • 156 yards
  • 3 rushing touchdowns

Only three other Minnesota players have won an Offensive Rookie of the Month award: Adrian Peterson, Randy Moss, and Percy Harvin.

Don’t forget that Patterson is only 22 years old.  This young guy has a long career ahead of him.  And if he can continue to improve and play at a high level, he will be a Vikings fan favorite for a long, long time.
