Head Coach Watch: Vikings Have Interest In San Diego Offensive Coordinator Ken Whisenhunt

Oh, and don’t forget about Ken Whisenhunt.

Yes, the former Arizona Cardinals head coach and current San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator is also being mentioned in connection with the Vikings’ head coaching vacancy.

Nearly every team with a vacancy is believed to have interest in Whisenhunt, whose stock rises every time the Chargers win another playoff game. The Detroit Lions are believed to have the biggest interest in Whiz.

Teams with QB issues are naturally going to be connected heavily to Whisenhunt, who is widely credited with helping Philip Rivers turn his career around in San Diego. Can Whis do the same thing for Matthew Stafford in Detroit? Jake Locker in Tennessee? Robert Griffin III in Washington?

Could Whiz even pull off the seeming miracle of rescuing Christian Ponder from the scrap heap?

Let’s not get silly.

But the Vikings do seem to like Whiz, who has been around for awhile and has head coaching experience. The Lions are the favorites for him right now. Washington is believed to be very high on Jay Gruden, another Vikings HC target.
