Rick Spielman is out there due diligencing the heck out of it, interviewing every well-regarded NFL assistant who is available to be interviewed. Things are already looking good for one of Spielman’s initial targets, Arizona defensive coordinator Todd Bowles.

How good is Bowles looking right now? Ian Rapoport is hearing that Bowles’ interview went “incredibly well” and says he wouldn’t be surprised if Bowles makes the Vikings’ top 3. Mike Garafolo concurred with Rapoport’s report, saying “That’s the buzz. Long one, too.”

To which I say SMOKESCREEN. I CALL SMOKESCREEN.

Everything is always a smokescreen with Rick Spielman, as we know. Media people are always either carrying water deliberately for the Vikings or are being duped by Spielman.

Why does Spielman waste his time being a football executive? Dude should be some kind of international super-spy.

But on the off-chance that Spielman isn’t smokescreening and this is just something that came out because this stuff sometimes just comes out? Sounds like Todd Bowles is a strong candidate.

If you’re power ranking these guys right now, I’d say it’s Mike Zimmer at #1, Bowles at a solid #2 and everything beyond that is undecided. We’ll have to wait and see how it goes for Ray Horton and Jay Gruden. Both those guys are reportedly interviewing this week.

Oh wow, this is more fun than mock drafting. By a lot.
