As far as I know there was zero suspense over whether Johnny Manziel would declare for the NFL draft. There may even have been a negative amount of suspense if such a thing is possible.
So it should come as no surprise to anyone that on Wednesday Johnny Manziel officially declared himself eligible for the 2014 NFL Player Selection Meeting by filing the necessary papers.
Manziel will be represented by Houston-based Select Sports Group and will have his marketing handled by LRMR, a company with ties to LeBron James.
The Texas A&M QB and 2012 Heisman Trophy winner is expected to be drafted in the top 10. Quarterbacks Teddy Bridgewater, Blake Bortles and Derek Carr are also rated as top 10 talents by draft experts.
So it’s a good year to be picking a quarterback if you have a top 10 pick. The Vikings have the #8 overall pick. Will Manziel still be there when they’re ready to select? Do they even want Manziel, who is almost as well-known for his partying as he is his football playing?
No doubt, Johnny Football will be a much-discussed player in Viking Nation from now until the draft. He would bring some welcome buzz to the team, there’s no question about that. Would wins follow the buzz? That’s a little more doubtful.
