Vikings Coach Watch: Jay Gruden Hired By Washington Redskins

I get the sense the Vikings were at least semi-warm on Jay Gruden but now that doesn’t matter because Gruden is off the market. The Washington Redskins are reportedly set to make Gruden their new head coach.

Gruden jumps from Cincinnati, where he had mixed results as an offensive coordinator, right into the dysfunction of Washington. Mike Shanahan couldn’t make it work there. Neither could Joe Gibbs before him. But Jay Gruden is going to fix it? Okay.

Needless to say, that interview Rick Spielman had set up with Gruden for Thursday is probably canceled. Dan Snyder’s money wins again.

The Vikings continue their coach search with Jay Gruden off the table. Mike Zimmer was interviewed on Wednesday, and Darrell Bevell and Dan Quinn are on the schedule for some time in the future. Todd Bowles was interviewed earlier in the week and made a strong impression.

The Vikes have expressed interest in 49ers OC Greg Roman and 49ers D-Line coach Jim Tomsula. Cleveland DC Ray Horton has also been mentioned.

And Jack Del Rio and Adam Gase. And Ken Whisenhunt is in the hunt as well.
