Everything written about the Vikings’ head coach search must include the words “as of now.” It’s all in “as of now” mode, regardless of what some may want us to believe.

So, as of now, Mike Zimmer and Todd Bowles are believed to be the favorites in Minnesota. Both men have already interviewed and both will reportedly be asked to interview a second time in the presence of Zygi Wilf and ownership.

Todd Bowles reportedly had a great interview with Rick Spielman earlier in the week. Zimmer interviewed on Wednesday and though we’ve yet to hear specifics about that interview, all indications are that it went well.

Ian Rapoport has indicated that there is a third candidate whose name is not yet known. This could be someone who has already interviewed or it could be someone who has not yet interviewed. It could be Adam Gase, the Denver Broncos offensive coordinator.

If the Vikings want to wait on Gase, who won’t interview until after the Broncos are out of the playoffs, they might lose their shot with Zimmer who is reportedly also high on the list in Tennessee.

If these reports on Zimmer are coming out via Zimmer’s agent, good job by Zimmer’s agent drumming up a market.

Now is a good time to remind everyone that Zimmer is reportedly a favorite of Zygi Wilf and that Bill Parcells has given Zimmer his own personal endorsement.

But how does Rick Spielman feel about Zimmer? There is reason to believe Spielman is more of a Gase guy and will want to wait this out.

The situation, as they say, remains fluid. As of now.
