The Vikings aren’t the only team in the middle of a pretty important search right now. Miami is currently casting about for a new general manager to replace the fired Jeff Ireland, and a member of the Vikings’ front office has now come up in connection with that process.

Mike Florio of PFT reports that Vikings assistant GM George Paton will interview for the Dolphins in the coming days. Paton has been with Rick Spielman going all the way back to their days in Chicago, and were together in Miami when Spielman was VP of player-personnel and then briefly general manager.

Paton has been a well-regarded executive for years now and it was only a matter of time before he got his shot as general manager. It appears that time has now arrived.

Paton joins a crowded field vying for the Miami GM job. Brian Xanders, Lake Dawson, Brian Gaine, Ray Farmer, Jason Licht, Omar Khan, Tom Gamble, Lionel Vital and Marc Ross  have also been connected with that position and some of those people have already been interviewed.

So yeah, pretty much if you have front office experience in the NFL, the Dolphins want to speak to you.

Losing Paton would be somewhat of a blow to the Vikings Brain Trust, in the middle of a semi-rebuilding situation no less, but I’m thinking the operation would be able to recover if Paton departed.
