We got a little distracted by other business this week, that whole hiring a new coach thing, but don’t worry, we didn’t forget about the weekly FanSided.com mock draft.

How could we forget about the weekly FanSided.com mock draft?

Mel Kiper may have blown up all other mock drafts earlier this week by putting Johnny Manziel at #1 and dropping Teddy Bridgewater to #8, but hey…we press on anyway. Kiper ain’t the boss of us.

Besides, I get the feeling Kiper was just trying to make some waves.

Anyway, here’s the Vikings pick this week.

Blake Bortles, QB, UCF

What I see happening in these mocks, not that there’s any significance to it but I’ve noted it anyway, is that Derek Carr is fading in people’s minds. Some negative stuff has been published about Carr and now everyone’s not so high on him.

The Big 4 is really the Big 3 now. Despite mock draft troll Kiper, I have to believe Bridgewater is still the #1 in most people’s minds. And Bortles and Johnny Manziel are fighting for #2.

And Carr is sagging down into AJ McCarron territory.

But of course the consensus doesn’t really matter for beans when it comes to drafts. It only takes one team liking a guy, and perceiving that other teams MIGHT like that guy, to make that guy a top pick. Sometimes conventional wisdom is right, sometimes it’s wrong.

I mean Blaine Gabbert was once a top 10 pick. For gosh sakes.
