Kirby Wilson Expected to Become Vikings RB Coach

Pittsburgh Steelers running backs coach Kirby Wilson tried out for the Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator spot but was passed over for that particular job. So he’ll have to settle for taking a job as RB coach in Minnesota.

Wilson has been RB coach in Pittsburgh since 2007. Before that he had multiple stops as a position coach, including a year in Washington as RB coach under Norv Turner.

It was thought Wilson had a shot to become Pittsburgh OC in 2012 but that opportunity was denied him when he suffered severe burns in a house fire and had to undergo extensive rehabilitation.

Being the running backs coach for Adrian Peterson sounds like the cake job of all cake jobs, but in Minnesota nothing is ever easy. Just ask former Vikings RB coach Eric Bieniemy. What do we remember Bieniemy for? His alleged culpability in the 12-men-in-the-huddle call that helped cost the Vikings the 2009 NFC title. Not his assistance in turning AD into one of the game’s most fearsome backs.

As long as he can count, Kirby Wilson should be fine. Adrian does most of the work anyway.
