The Alabama Crimson Tide have been known for their defense over the last several seasons, and part of the reason for that is middle linebacker C.J. Mosley.

Mosley is a tackling machine.  However, don’t overlook his ability to cover the pass as well.  He was a leader on the Tide’s suffocating defense and looks to be a top selection in this year’s draft.  He has excellent size for a linebacker.  He is 6’2″ tall and weighs in at 232 pounds.

His best asset could be his intelligence.  He is well rounded and disciplined, rarely making mental errors or taking poor angles.  His physical style of play has led to him suffering several injuries that may have an impact on his draft stock.

Here are his statistics over four seasons at Alabama:

Fit For The Vikings

Minnesota released last year’s starting middle linebacker, Erin Henderson.  His replacement, Audie Cole, played well in Henderson’s absence, but an upgrade would definitely be good.

My Take

I like Mosley a lot. His ability to cover the pass as well as stuff the run is something that is highly valued in a middle linebacker.  I would be happy to have Mosley be the #8 overall pick for the Vikings.
