2014 NFL Draft Profile: Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix, S Alabama

Alabama sure knows how to put great defensive players on their way to the NFL.  This time, it’s safety Ha’Sean “Ha Ha” Clinton-Dix.

If you like aggressive safeties, you’ll love Clinton-Dix.  He’s the kind of player that wants the interception or big play every time a quarterback passes the ball in his direction.  More often than not, he makes a great play, but sometimes that aggressiveness burns him.  He’s not afraid to throw around his 6’1″, 208 pound body around in a physical way to stop plays from happening.

His aggressive nature hit off the field too, when he was suspended for two games for violation of team rules.  However, that shouldn’t have a big impact on his draft stock.

Here are his statistics over three seasons at Alabama:

  • Jan 7, 2013; Miami, FL, USA; Notre Dame Fighting Irish tight end Tyler Eifert (80) is tackled by Alabama Crimson Tide defensive back Ha

    34 games played

  • 58 solo tackles
  • 99 total tackles
  • 7 interceptions
  • 10 passes defended

Strengths

  • Long body makes him play bigger than he is
  • Speedy
  • Good awareness
  • Agile
  • Power hitter

Weaknesses

  • Sometimes overly aggressive
  • Wrap up tackle technique

Fit For The Vikings

Minnesota is looking for a long term answer at safety along side Harrison Smith.

My Take

Clinton-Dix is the best safety in the draft.  That said, I would be happy to have him in Minnesota Vikings purple, but I’m not sure it would be the best use of the team’s #8 overall pick.
