Video: Metrodome Ring Beam Demolition

Sunday morning, crews took down a chunk of the Metrodome with explosives. Mark Vancleave of the Star-Trib caught some video and kindly put it on Instagram.

The explosive demolition was required after an unexpected partial collapse of the Metrodome’s ring beam. Due to the safety hazard represented by the remaining pieces of ring beam, the decision was made to just blow it up and be done with it.

For us it’s a cool video clip to watch while we’re having our morning coffee. For folks in Minneapolis dealing with resulting road closures, noise, dust and upset animals, it was a Sunday morning annoyance.

With the ring beam situation handled, the demolition of the dome can get back on schedule. Hopefully there will be no more unforeseen hiccups.
