Vikings Rumors: "A Few Teams" In the Mix for Michael Johnson

It’s a foregone conclusion in some people’s minds that Michael Johnson will wind up in Minnesota.

Mike Zimmer connection. Tons of cap space. Big need at defensive end. Natural fit, right?

Yeah. But you know what they say about counting your chickens before they’re hatched?

Reality: The Vikings aren’t going to land Michael Johnson without first having to bid for his services against other teams. And some of these teams may be heavy spenders willing to run up Johnson’s price above Rick Spielman’s threshold.

At last report, at least “a few teams” were in on Johnson. Tim McManus of 97.5 The Fanatic characterized the negotiations as “heavy.” He also mentioned that the Eagles, a team at one time thought to be in contention for Johnson, are not currently in the running.

The Vikings are perceived as the favorite for Johnson, but that is a perception based almost entirely on circumstantial evidence.

Those chickens are still waiting to hatch. And I for one am not going to count them when they’re just a bunch of eggs.

Johnson will have to be content with 7 if he goes to Minnesota. Can’t see them giving more. I think they need some space for Talib or Verner.

We had $41 Million in cap before the Matt Cassel resigning, so if they really like a couple free agents they could drop

Johnson isn’t our only alternative. There is our own EV Griffin a nd we could also go Kony Ealy in the draft. So, let’s not get too excited over MJ.
