Free Agency Rumors: Verner To Ink Deal On Tuesday

Vikings fans holding their breath to see what will happen with free agent Alterraun Verner might not have to hold it too much longer.

Ralph Vacchiano on Twitter reported today that he expects a deal to be made with the former Titans star cornerback on the first day of free agency.  This assumption is made because he is not planning any visits to potential suitors.

Verner is perhaps the top cornerback available in this year’s crop of free agents.  It is likely that he’s already received multiple offers from teams for big cash looking to secure the young, impressive player.

While Mr. Vacchianio is well tuned into the New York Giants media, he does state that although he expects the signing on Tuesday, he hasn’t heard anything as far as the identity of the chosen team.

Vikings Are idiots they won’t sign anybody good like verner there signing scrubs that were already on the roster get rick out of Minnesota please!!

You can’t deal with UFA’s til tuesday per the new CBA. Chill out. Free agency doesn’t even open up til then.

Rome wasn’t built in a day. And, we just can’t go out and overspend. We should be looking at around $30 million in cap space, so we have to spend another $20 million. That’s at least 1 blue chipper, possibly 2 and few fill ins to create competition and create depth. We could land the top CB, Safety, WR, OG or even LB in the draft. And, there is depth at most positions.

If you’re going to call someone an idiot, you might want to spell check your post before posting it.

AV signs with the Vikings for $40 million over 4 years $13 million signing bonus collecting $22 million over the first 2 years would be my prediction.

I would love that but I don’t think that would ever happen Rick spellman is cheap in free agency!!

      • kyle

Don’t know how you can say he’s cheap when he locked up Jennings for 5 yr/$40M and Griffen for 5 yr/$42M.

And, we’re not not finished yet. We have to spend some more in FA, so Verner and at least one more impact player like Linval Joseph or possibly TJ Ward could be on the Vikings wish list.

Pro Football Talk is suggesting that the reason the Jets are letting Cromartie walk is that they have someone waiting in the wings. Sounds like Verner to the Jets

I guess we’ll find out on tuesday.

Could be Talib. Though the Vikings may try and steer clear of the first wave, they still have to spend some money approximately $30 million left and they still could restructure Chad Greenways’ contract or cut him leaving even more money to spend. So, the Vikings are in a great position to land Verner and they have the inside track with their DB coach Jerry Gray who was AV’s coach at Tennessee.

Is it just me, or does this seem like a non-story. Okay, so Verner has supposedly already decided who he’s going to sign with. That’s the whole story, or the whole useless information.

How ’bout that? A post from someone with some cerebral capacity, and some common sense. No need to argue about this. At this point in time, no one knows anything for certain. Actually, there’s no need to argue about it at all. We Viking fans can all just agree that, come Tuesday, the signing of Verner would be FANTASTIC news. Then, if Spielman and company use as much sense as Erick Rodelius has done with his comment, they’ll wave some more of that coin at Jarius Byrd.

      • Erick Rodelius

I would love the Vikings to be the team Verner decided to sign with. With that said, the most frustrating part of the football offseason is the part we’re in right now. It’s nothing but free agent rumors, mock drafts up to 71.8.6 & zero useful information unless a player actually signs a contract. We just have way too many bloggers, and journalists struggling to find something to share, and that leads to an “article” just as this Verner one. Off my soapbox. Thanks for the comment holymomentumbatman#84 & Skol Vikings!

Hes looking to get 5 years 52 million… I say make it happen no matter what. The most they lose from this years cap is 12 to 15 million in the signing bonus. Then grab 2 mid level DTs and focus on CBs and LBs in the draft, oh and maybe a LG
