Rumorpalooza 2014 continues on Spring Ahead Sunday, and once again the Vikings are a featured performer.
The latest player reported to be drawing interest from the Vikings is Baltimore Ravens DE/DT Arthur Jones. Aaron Wilson reports that several teams are on Jones, including the Titans, Redskins and Giants.
The 315-pound Jones was taken by Baltimore in the fifth round of the 2010 draft. He was a rotational player for his first couple years, but in 2013 he started 13 out of 14 games, recording 4 sacks.
Jones’ true value can’t be expressed via his stats. Teams covet him due to his scheme flexibility and steady overall performance.
Mike Zimmer likes defensive linemen he can move around and rotate and use in different ways. Jones looks like just such a player.
Jones has already indicated that he won’t take less money to stay in Baltimore. The vigorous interest he’s generating early in the process would indicate that he was right to test the free agent waters.
Jones joins an ever-growing list of defensive linemen believed to be on the Vikings’ radar screen. Michael Johnson and Paul Soliai have come up this weekend, and the Vikings have also kept in touch with Jared Allen and Everson Griffen.
