Jared Allen is leaving the Vikings, hoping to land a free agent deal with team that in his mind has a more realistic chance of contending in the short term.

Reports say Allen has cut his list of dream Chasing a Ring landing spots down to less than five. And one of those teams is the Green Bay Packers.

Bill Huber of Packer Report says the Patriots, Giants, Buccaneers and, yes, Packers are the four teams on Allen’s wish list.

Not on the wish list? The Denver Broncos, the team believed most likely to sign Allen.

That Allen would leave the Broncos off the list tends to indicate that the creation and subsequent leaking of the list is more a negotiating ploy meant to pry extra money out of the Broncos than an actual realistic run down of potential suitors.

It’s unlikely under any circumstances that Green Bay would put in a bid on Allen, an aging defensive end who is about as bad a fit in the Packers’ 3-4 defense as one could possibly imagine.

So don’t worry purple faithful, you won’t have to look at Jared Allen in green and gold next year. The likelihood remains that Jared will be lining up in Denver.

Jared is just trying to play hardball with the team he knows will inevitably sign him.

Probably.
