Darren Sproles Traded to Eagles

The Vikings won’t be bringing in Norv Turner’s old running back Darren Sproles, because he was reportedly just traded to the Eagles.

Jason La Canfora has the scoop on Sproles being sent from the Saints to Philadelphia. Mrs. Sproles will be holding a press conference shortly.

The Vikings became a speculative landing spot for Sproles the second we learned New Orleans was looking to cut ties with him, but mostly that was just the Norv Turner connection.

Realistically, the Vikings were never that great a landing spot. Sproles has max value as a running back and a return man, but the Vikings already have good return men, and using Sproles as a third down back would only have cut back on Adrian Peterson’s touches, which would not have made Peterson very happy.

The Vikes do have a need for a running back with more value as a receiver – Norv Turner likes throwing to the back out of the backfield – but they can pick up a guy like that in the draft.

Sproles was a nice dream but never a very practical one.
