Spencer Nealy Takes Over Jared Allen's #69

Jared Allen’s #69 may be retired by the Vikings one day, but that day won’t come until after Jared has himself retired from football.

For now, #69 is still an active number in Minnesota. And it will be used in 2014. No respectful one year grace period.

Per Ben Goessling, defensive lineman Spencer Nealy is the one taking over Jared’s number.

No word yet on whether Nealy plans to attempt any marketing schemes built around the #69.

Maybe he should have some t-shirts printed up, like these oh-so-hilarious ones some Bears fans made to celebrate Jared Allen’s arrival in Chi-town.

Will Spencer Nealy soon have his own Club 69 like Jared did back in Kansas City?

I kind of doubt it.

No, you can put on the number, but you can’t necessarily take on everything that goes with the number.

You can slap a 69 on Spencer Nealy’s chest but he will never be Jared Allen.
