Mel Kiper Mock Draft: Vikings Take Kyle Van Noy In 2nd Round

Mel Kiper’s newest mock draft has the Vikings going with quarterback Blake Bortles in the first round over QB Teddy Bridgewater.

But what about the defense, you ask? Don’t the Vikings need defense?

Yes. In the second round, Kiper has the Vikings addressing their severe issue at linebacker by taking BYU’s Kyle Van Noy.

Kiper really likes Van Noy, calling him “instinctive and explosive.”

However, all the scouts are not as kind as Kiper. Ron Rang calls him “not an elite athlete” and says he relies on his instincts to make up for some obvious physical shortcomings.

Van Noy is clearly no Khalil Mack or Anthony Barr. He projects as more of a workmanlike Chad Greenway sort of linebacker, not a game-changer.

If you’re content to line up Chad Greenway and Chad Greenway 2.0 at the same time, then by all means, take Kyle Van Noy.

Me, I’d like to see a guy who can rush the passer and make more impact plays. But that’s just me.
