2014 NFL Draft: Teddy Bridgewater Has Abnormal Heartbeat

It appears there is a tiny medical issue with new Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, emphasis on the word “tiny.”

Per Tom Pelissero of USA Today, Bridgewater has been diagnosed with an abnormal heartbeat by Vikings medical people. The condition was discovered during a pre-draft physical and is not believed to be serious.

Bridgewater told Pelissero he was unaware of the condition before hearing about it from the Vikings. He also says the Vikings were the only team that noticed the problem.

Again, the issue is considered minor and should not affect Bridgewater. The issue absolutely did not play a part in Bridgewater lasting all the way to the late first round, as other teams didn’t even notice it.

Conspiracy theorists I imagine will still try to make something of this report in light of the insurance policy Bridgewater reportedly took out to cover himself in case he slid down the draft.

I can already see the tweets. “If he didn’t know about the heart condition how come he took out that insurance policy? The Vikings got screwed again they should have drafted Johnny Manziel!!!”

Just save it. Seriously.

Gosh, Dan, I enjoy your sarcasim, but you seem serious when you say “the Vikings got screwed again” I am nervous about Teddy’s 210lb weight, but did you know many people have abnormal heart beats. It is normal for them.I don’t expect you to be a medical genius, but this truly is common. You have probably been fortunate enough to never have had a loved one at the mayo clinic. They will tell you that it isn’t ALWAYS a big deal.I say put some bananas and peanut butter in his belly for a year and make sure he hits the weight room and he will work out very well. You can’t argue there are skills with this kid. Iwanted Barr and then Mettenberger ( big kid) but Teddy is a good guy and a pretty darn good Q.B. I don’t believe Vikes got screwed. I think Rick may have fixed a one mistake in Ponder.

Ya. In the press conference, Zimmer didn’t say he had an abnormal heartbeat, Dan just doesn’t listen. They said there was something off that they got cleared up, and is nothing. For all we know it could have just been a malfunction on the heart monitor. Zimmer only brought it up as a story where Teddy said his “heart is too big”.

Bob, your are so right! The QB out of LSU was the pick at the end of round 1.
