The Vikings have all their rookies in this weekend for minicamp, so it’s a natural time for guys to start signing their contracts. And, as a matter of fact, we now have news of the first Vikings 2014 draft pick to put his name on the dotted line.
Per agent Mike McCartney, fifth round offensive guard David Yankey has signed his deal. Yankey was taken by the Vikings with the #145 overall pick, a selection they acquired from Cleveland in the trade down from 8 to 9.
According to Over the Cap, rookie fifth round deals work out to a base salary in year one of $420,000. That jumps to $510,000 in year two, $600,000 in year three and $690,000 in year four.
All these deals are four-year contracts according to the terms of the CBA.
Yankey figures to be dropped right into the competition at left guard along with penciled-in starter Charlie Johnson and free agent acquisition Vlad Ducasse. Dane Brugler compares Yankey to Saints OG Ben Grubbs.
Other Vikings picks may already have signed but not had their agents tweet about it.
