There are now three Zimmers in Minnesota. You know about head coach Mike Zimmer and his son, linebackers coach Adam Zimmer. Now you have to learn about a third member of the Vikings’ Zimmer triple play. Whose name also happens to be Mike Zimmer.
It’s kind of weird, but it’s true. The Vikings had former Illinois State linebacker Mike Zimmer at their rookie camp this weekend for a tryout (a few people noted the player with the name “Zimmer” on his helmet, and some thought it was actually Adam standing in as a player for some reason). The second Mike Zimmer impressed the first Mike Zimmer enough to be signed to a contract.
So, the Vikings now have two Mike Zimmers, and one Adam Zimmer. Don Zimmer as far as I know is in no danger of being hired.
The new Zimmer is a 6-3, 230 pound linebacker out of Illinois State who made first team All Missouri Valley Conference in 2012 and finished his career tied for 13th all-time at ISU with 269 total tackles.
Zimmer signed as a UDFA last year with Jacksonville and made it all the way through preseason.
I’m going to assume the name had nothing to do with Zimmer scoring a contract in Minnesota. Cause that would be pretty cheesy. Bad enough that Zimmer already gave a job to his son.
