The College Football Hall of Fame has selected its 2014 class of inductees, and there is a former Viking star among them. One-time Minnesota running back Darrin Nelson has gotten the call from the college hall for his four years of production at Stanford.
Nelson, the prototypical all-purpose back, racked up 4,033 rushing yards, 2,362 receiving yards and 56 total TDs in four years of college ball. Nelson would be drafted by the Vikings with the seventh overall pick in 1982, and would go on to play for a decade in the NFL.
Though Nelson never became the true big-time featured back the Vikings wished him to become, he did have a nice career in purple. He was a truly great back in college and fully deserves to be included in the Hall.
