2008 didn’t exactly start well for the Vikings, with the team losing their opener at Green Bay, but there was at least one delicious highlight from that Week 1 loss at Lambeau Field. Adrian Peterson gaining his revenge against hated Packers cornerback Al Harris.
Some of you may recall the play from the year before when Harris went low on then-rookie Peterson, injuring Adrian’s knee and knocking him out for two weeks. It was an incredibly dirty hit by Harris and frankly Peterson was lucky didn’t get hurt more seriously.
As a matter of fact, at the time there were rumors that the Packers had put a bounty out on Peterson. The rumor said that Packers defensive players had been offered $500 each if they could hold Peterson under 100 yards on the game. They held Peterson to 45.
Mike McCarthy said at the time that he would “look into” the bounty allegations. Think he ever got around to that? I doubt it.
Needless to say, Adrian filed away the low, dirty, possibly-bounty-related hit by Al Harris for future reference. It didn’t take him long to gain revenge. In the first quarter of that Week 1 game the next year, Peterson came around the edge, found Harris and let him have it.
Peterson’s laid some big hits on guys over the course of his career but this was one of the best and most satisfying, mostly because of who the victim was. Eff you Al Harris, and your stupid hair.
