These days, it’s hard to find a positive article about Christian Ponder. Everyone seems to have thrown in the towel on the former first round draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings.
The good news for Christian Ponder is that his family life seems to be going better than ever. After getting married to his sweetheart Samantha Steele, the two have added a baby girl to the mix recently. However, the daughter’s name is a bit of a surprise.
According to a tweet by ESPN’s Ben Goessling, here is the name the happy couple decided to go with:
Christian Ponder said his little girl’s name is Bowden Sainte-Claire. Yes, she’s named after Bobby.

NFL fans may not be super familiar with the name Bobby Bowden. Bowden used to be the head coach for the Florida State Seminoles from 1976 to 2009. Christian Ponder met Bobby Bowden in 2006, when he redshirted for FSU. After that, Ponder acted as the backup for Drew Weatherford in 2007 before taking over the starting position in 2008.
Naming a child after a former head coach is a HUGE honor and one that I’m sure Christian Ponder felt very strongly about doing. Bowden Sainte-Claire Ponder is a beautiful name for a child and we at The Viking Age would like to congratulate Samantha and Christian Ponder on their baby girl. We wish them nothing but the best in the future.
