Vikings Waive Larry Dean, Austin Wentworth

With the Vikings winning waiver claims on OT Mike Harris and TE MarQueis Gray, two players had to be cut to make room on the 53-man roster.

Per Darren Wolfson, the two Vikings getting the Sunday afternoon axe are LB Larry Dean and OT Austin Wentworth.

The Dean cut leaves the Vikings with seven linebackers on the roster. Wentworth could be added to the practice squad once he (inevitably) clears waivers.

Dean has a chance to catch on somewhere, given his special teams ability. The UDFA performed ably for a couple of seasons in Minnesota and was always a hard worker.

Cutting Dean continues a pretty strong recent trend of Mike Zimmer moving on from guys who were favorites of Leslie Frazier. In recent days the Vikings have stuck Mistral Raymond and Jamarca Sanford on IR and released Fred Evans.

In the offseason they moved on from Erin Henderson, Chris Cook, Kevin Williams and Jared Allen.

Robert Blanton managed to stick on the roster, which is a testament to something.
