In their first meeting of the season the Packers took it to the Vikings at Lambeau Field, crushing Minnesota by a final score of 42-10.

How do the Vikings avoid another humiliating defeat at the hands of their arch rivals from the east?

Offensive production will be key in this one. The Vikings can’t fall flat on the offensive side of the ball and lose control of field position, putting their defense under extra pressure against the high-powered Packers.

Slowing down the Packers run game will be a big key. Green Bay ran the ball at will using Eddie Lacy zone runs in the last matchup. Minnesota must maintain gap discipline to avoid another gashing.

Even if the Vikings slow down Lacy, Aaron Rodgers will still have a chance to light up the Vikings secondary. Green Bay has hit multiple big pass plays in recent weeks, and the Vikings have proven themselves vulnerable to the big play all season.

Offensively, it’s going to be a big test for Teddy Bridgewater against the re-vitalized Packer defense. Clay Matthews has settled into his new role as a playmaking inside linebacker in Dom Capers’ reworked 3-4 scheme. Bridgewater has avoided turnovers for the most part in recent weeks but the Packers have some ball hawkers in Casey Hayward and Sam Shields.

Prediction: The Vikings will get their offense going a little more this week, with their running game finding a groove against the Packers defense, and it will help the defense keep the Packers close. But the Packers will still win 24-17.
