Vikings Look To Exploit Generous Jets Pass Defense

On Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings are scheduled to host the New York Jets.  This game features two teams that are struggling to be recognized while developing young quarterbacks.  However, one of those young quarterbacks has a matchup that could play into their favor.

Entering week 13, the Jets have given up 27 passing touchdowns.  This is tied for the most in the NFL with the struggling Chicago Bears.  To add to those woes, the Jets only have four interceptions on the season.  That’s right, as a team, they have only picked off opposing quarterbacks FOUR times.  In addition, quarterbacks facing the Jets have an average quarterback rating of 106.6 this year.  Those numbers lead us to believe that they can be taken advantage of through the air.

Sadly, the passing game isn’t the Vikings strong suit though.  Currently, they are ranked #30 in the NFL in passing yards per game, averaging 186.2 passing yards per game.  When you add in the fact that Minnesota has only thrown 11 passing touchdowns this season, this advantage could be hard for rookie passer Teddy Bridgewater to take advantage of.

If the Vikings hope to win against the Jets on Sunday, they’ll need to exploit this weakness.  If Minnesota can come out and play like they did early on against the Carolina Panthers last week, the team could get an early advantage and never look back.  But if they can’t, it could be a VERY long game for the Vikings.
