Jerick McKinnon’s move to IR means an opportunity on the active roster for an impressive preseason player and another shot on the practice squad for an intriguing safety.

More from Minnesota Vikings News

The Vikings announced that DE Justin Trattou has been signed from the practice squad to replace McKinnon. To take Trattou’s place on the practice squad, the Vikings have brought back safety Ahmad Dixon.

Trattou you recall looked very strong in preseason and was thought to have a chance to make the final roster, but was narrowly beaten out.

The former Florida Gator, who came to the NFL in 2011 as a UDFA with the Giants, adds even more depth to a defensive line that has been a strong unit for the Vikings.

A 2014 7th round pick out of Baylor, Ahmad Dixon has bounced around to franchises this year, landing with the Vikings, Bears and Dolphins after being cut by the team that drafted him, the Dallas Cowboys.

The Bears actually signed him to the active roster after plucking him from the Vikings’ practice squad earlier this year. Now he is back for a second stint on the Minnesota scout team.

Dixon had an impressive preseason with the Cowboys but things just didn’t work out between them and Dixon. The one-time Baylor star clearly has talent, but he also clearly has some issues between the ears.
