Jarius Wright Feels He’s Done Enough To Have Contract Extended By Vikings

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jarius Wright is having his best season as a professional football player.  This year, he has caught 39 passes and accumulated 565 yards through the passing game while adding 71 rushing yards on 5 carries.  All of those are career highs for the former 2012 4th round draft pick by Minnesota.  Next year, he enters the final year of his deal with Minnesota, but he’s ready to ink a deal with the Vikings to make sure he stays with the team much longer.

In a recent article by Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press, Jarius Wright talked about his future with the Vikings.  Here’s what he said:

"“Being the third receiver, I do think I’ve done enough (for an extension),” Wright said. “But it’s kind of not up to me.”"

It’s interesting that Wright still considers himself the third receiver on the team.  After the two starters at wide receiver (Greg Jennings and Charles Johnson) there is former starter Cordarrelle Patterson that has been sliding around on the depth chart a bit after a disappointing season.  Although Wright gets more game time than Patterson, it’s hard to believe that he’s currently slated to be the team’s #3 wide receiver with the huge investment the team made in Patterson at the draft by trading up with New England to get him.

Besides that debate, Wright does want to remain in Minnesota and get that extension done as soon as possible.

"“Something I would definitely like to do is hopefully get a contract extension and be here a little bit longer,’’ Wright continued. “I mean, you definitely have more security. You feel better knowing if you’re able to lock up a contract extension.”"

Do you think Jarius Wright has done enough to deserve a contract extension before the season?  Or do you think he still needs to prove himself a bit more before the Vikings lock him up?  Debate it in the comments below.
