Vikings Rumors: Robert McClain Draws Interest From Minnesota

The Vikings have shown interest in several cornerbacks this free agency period, including veteran Packers CB Tramon Williams and former Steelers CB Brice McCain (who has since signed with Miami). Now you can add Falcons CB Robert McClain to the list.

According to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson, McClain has drawn interest from the Saints and Dolphins as well as the Vikings.

Before you get too excited dreaming of more Robert McClain in your future, consider that Pro Football Focus graded him at -8.1 in 642 snaps, making him one of the least attractive free agent options.

The 5-9 McClain mostly operated as a slot corner last year for Atlanta and did have 2 interceptions. The Vikings already have a slot corner in Captain Munnerlyn, but could be looking for more depth at that particular spot.

Then again, given the way Munnerlyn underperformed last year, it’s not out of the question that the Vikings might be looking to move on from him entirely. McClain would represent a very low-cost replacement option (and arguably not much of an upgrade).

Overall though, it’s not a great idea to speculate on what a team might be thinking about a current player based on what they are supposedly doing in free agency. Sometimes names just get put out there.

Robert McClain reportedly being on the Vikings’ radar doesn’t mean they hate Captain Munnerlyn for being a turd who got torched a lot in coverage last year and admitted he didn’t listen to his coaches.

Probably.
