The Minnesota Vikings Draft Picks: How do they fit?

facebooktwitterreddit

The picks have been made by the Vikings organization, the jerseys have been handed out and now the first rookie camp is in session this weekend.

The Vikings have made it clear they want to build through the draft and I took a look at the current 90 man roster and this is what I found.

There are 41 draft choices currently on the roster including the 10 from the most recent draft held in Chicago.

As a fan of this organization I am thrilled with this effort as I want to see these young guys with so much youth be a long part of the future. The day of signing several guys to big free agent deals for now seems to be over and I like that.

I want a Teddy Bridgewater, Trae Waynes, Anthony Barr plus the cast of other draft choices to be around for years.

Chad Greenway is the veteran draft choice on the team as he was drafted way back in 2006. Chad has been so consistent and fun to watch plus he is a tremendous community guy for the team.

I look at the roster and see the players and the years they were drafted. It looks like this:

-2006- Chad Greenway

-2007- Adrian Peterson and Brian Robison

-2008- John Sullivan

-2009- Phil Loadholt

-2010- Everson Griffen

-2011- Brandon Fusco and Kyle Rudolph

-The years 2012-2014 sees a total of 29 draft picks and 23 are still on the current roster.

-The 2012 had 10 picks with 7 on the roster and only Trevor Guyton and Greg Childs no longer on the team.

-2013 had 8 picks with 5 on the roster and 3 no longer as Jeff Bacca, Travis Bond, and Everett Dawkins have since departed.

-2014 had 10 picks with 9 still on the roster and only Kendall James no longer in purple.

The class of 2015 has 10 players and looking at the last 4 drafts with 79 percent  in the last 3 drafts on the roster has to show these guys if they come to play and take work direction from Coach Zimmer and his staff well I will look forward to seeing these young men on the opening week 53 man roster.
