ESPN Calls Minnesota Vikings Uniforms ‘Middle-Echelon’

It’s only been a couple of seasons since the Minnesota Vikings unveiled their new uniforms.  They went with a darker color of purple, added a metallic finish, added black bars to the facemask, and put serifs on the numbers and the sleeves.  While those changes weren’t major, they were enough to keep things interesting and help distinguish Vikings jerseys from the many others that are out there.

However, the jerseys were met with a mixed reaction.  But now that we’ve all had a chance to get used to the new look that the Minnesota Vikings have, it’s become normal for fans to see and I haven’t heard any mention of their look until an article from ESPN recently ranked the jerseys of all 32 NFL teams.

Here’s what they had to say about the Minnesota Vikings look:

"16. Minnesota Vikings (+1)The Vikes moved up a few slots this time around simply by avoiding the mono-purple look last season. The weird numbering system still needs to go (you wouldn’t believe how many emails and tweets come in at Uni Watch HQ each Sunday saying, “How come this guy’s ‘7’ doesn’t match this other guy’s ‘7’?”), but the overall look is holding its own as a middle-echelon NFL uniform set."

Personally, I like the all-purple look, but I realize that it’s not for everyone.  And while standard or block numbering has become standard on most uniforms, sometimes something a little different can help to make a uniform unique.  It is sort of like how Tampa Bay has their “digital alarm clock” numbers.  It’s all about trying to make your product stand out.

What do you guys think?  Do you feel the Minnesota Vikings jerseys are just average?  And if you were to make a change to the jerseys, what would you do to make them look better?  Let me know in the comments below.
