Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater is more than just a choir boy

There is no denying that a majority of Minnesota Vikings fans love their quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.  There is just something about him that makes him one of the most lovable players on the team.  He’s got the kind face, calm demeanor and patience that you rarely see from young players in the National Football League.

However, there was some concern about that kindness, calmness, and quiet nature that made some people feel that he would lack the leadership skills to be an effective quarterback at the professional level.  Since then, he’s taken control of the huddle and been more vocal with his teammates on assignments.

According to an article on Yahoo Sports, Teddy Bridgewater has the respect and praise of his teammates, including cornerback Xavier Rhodes.

"”We all know he had the poise. He can sit in the pocket and it’s hard to rattle him, but his throws, the accuracy, he’s gotten better,” Rhodes said.  ”If you get Teddy mad, something’s wrong with you. You need to go check yourself if you get him mad. I’ve never seen him fired-up or angry or mad or anything. He’s always smiling.”"

It’s that smile and charm that helps draw people in.  Well, that and the excellent completion percentage that Teddy Bridgewater has accomplished at the end of the 2014 NFL season (third-highest completion rate in NFL history by a rookie) and has carried into the preseason (22 for 28, 78.6% rate).

Teddy Bridgewater’s on the field success to this point is really helped by his image.  At a time when the NFL is clouded by many cases of assault, drug abuse, and scandals, it’s great to think of the Minnesota Vikings quarterback as being one of those guys that you just can’t see getting into trouble.  As far as Teddy goes, he will always have people thinking he’s a choir boy.  Especially now that he has actually become one.

"”I just joined this year,” Bridgewater said after a recent practice. ”Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church, in Miami.”"

That’s Teddy Bridgewater in a nutshell: calm and cool choir boy.  Hopefully, we can add more positive things to that list in the future.  The sky seems to be the limit with this young man.
